And You Shall Teach Them. . .

If you missed last week’s Blog Cruise Question of the Week, you missed some great replies to the “What About Socialization?” question. My thoughts on socialization was that it really is not an issue at all. But others had lots more to say. I especially like one mom’s reply that socialization is more of a problem for moms than for kids!

This week’s question is: how do I know what to teach?

For me this is easy and can be summed up in one word.

The Word commands me to teach His decrees and His commands to my children.

Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. . . Deuteronomy 11:1

Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign on your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shall teach them your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. ~ Deuteronomy 11:18-19

Bottom line, the Bible is how I know what to teach!

However, we comply with our state laws and teach the 7 subjects required by our state to teach. State law requires me to teach a “basic academic program” as defined by Wyoming Statute § 21-4-101(a)(vi), which says:

A “‘basic academic educational program’ is one that provides a sequentially progressive curriculum of fundamental instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, civics, history, literature, and science.” ~ HSLDA

And according to Wyoming state law (Wyo. Stat. § 21-4-101(a)(vi).), man’s law is not in conflict with Yahveh’s law and I am free to teach from the Bible.

Here are some practical answers for you, as well:
